HALL OF FAME
WINNERS OF THE SOPHIE TROPHY
HISTORY OF THE SOPHIE TROPHY:
Once upon a time, a happy young man called Gerry, who was very contented with his one son and one daughter, got a bit drunk one New Years Eve. Spotting her chance, his obviously opportunistic wife took advantage of poor defenceless Gerry and got herself pregnant.
Now Gerry was not a happy bunny!! Words were exchanged and Gerry went into what can only be described as a bit of a lull. Papa Snork, meanwhile, ensured that the inaugural 2001 golf tour was booked sufficiently late so as to avoid any clash with the happy day. However, the impending new arrival, sensing the warm welcome waiting for it, decided to hang on in for a little bit longer than expected.
A difficult decision had to be made.......so off to Spain they all went, including young Gerry. On the day after arriving in Spain, Friday 5th October (we wont mention that this is also his wedding anniversary!), baby Sophie was born. Racked with remorse (eventually!) at missing the birth of this latest addition to his family, Gerry proposed naming the Tour Winners Trophy after his newborn, and so the SOPHIE TROPHY was christened.
THE Sophie Trophy (see below). Inscription reads "World's Greatest Golfer"
